April is National Autism Awareness month. Please consider donating money to local special-needs preschool programs or to local special-needs classrooms (directly). If possible, donate directly to a family that is affected by this heartbreaking disability, because they really could use the extra help.
When money is donated to large organizations, little money goes to the people in need, due to the amount of employees & business costs involved. Also, the popular, large organizations have an application process that denies many low-income, needy families from receiving funds. So, instead of donating to large organizations & their business costs, consider donating to someone local, please.
Classrooms could always use the money for art supplies, school supplies, class trips and so on. Funding has been drastically cut over the last several years and school teachers often have to pay for things out-of-pocket. You would make a huge difference in the life of children affected by ASD if you donated to a local classroom or family.
These are my personal opinions, based on the experiences of people close to me.
