Review: Zingo! Sight Words Game for Children

I'm really happy to tell you about this new game that I've been playing with Noah--it's called Zingo! Sight Words. It's a Bingo-inspired, educational game for children. Instead of numbers, it uses sight words. Great concept, right?
Well, it gets even better: It has a sliding dispenser for the plastic word tiles {so fun!}
*What are sight words? "Sight words are the most frequently used words in the English language and make up about 50-75% of all written material. Learning and mastering sight words is a key step in becoming a successful, fluent reader. The sight words used in this game have been specially selected by leading educators as the most fundamental for reading development."

Game Play: The goal is to match all the words on your card, first, to win! Zingo! Sight Words may reinforce what children are learning at school and help with problems identifying sight words--games are more fun than paper lessons, for most children :)

What's Included:
Zingo! Zinger (the sliding game piece/tile dispenser)
72 Zingo! Sight Words Tiles
6 Double-sided Zingo! Cards
1 Zingo! Zinger
Instructions and Learning Guide
Pros of Zingo! Sight Words{I can name so many!}: What I love about this game is the versatility and the durability. The cards are thick and the game pieces are plastic. I play this game with Noah, sometimes, by selecting just the words on one card and putting them into the slider and letting him match them and say them. He's too young to read, but he's old enough to identify words. This game is perfect for both preschool-aged children and (early) elementary-school-aged children (recommended ages are pre-k through 1st grade).

Could use improvement: One thing. I would love for the game pieces not to slip around on the card {add individual compartments for the pieces/tiles to rest in etc}. This game card is like most game cards--glossy and thick--it's actually thicker than most of Noah's other games. I recommend playing this at a table for best results.

More Reasons to Love Zingo! Sight Words:

  • The game pieces/tiles are plastic, so they will last for a very long time (possibly, forever).
  • The words are very easy to read on the tiles--clearly written.
  • The box flips up, instead of having a removable lid--much easier for storage.
  • The fun colors and symbols are both beneficial and engaging for children {example: the #2 on the spot with the word "two"}.
  • Zingo! Sight Words can be played with 2-6 players.
  • It was recently nominated for a Toy of the Year Award (That's like the Oscars for the toy industry!)
    • TDmonthly Top Toy: Seal of Approval - 2013
    • Play On Words (PAL) Seal of Approval - 2012
    • Play On Words (PAL) Top 10 Pick - 2012
  • No batteries needed!
  • It's easy to clean! All of the pieces are easy to wipe off--including the cards :)

I absolutely recommend this game for young children--your children, church groups, classrooms, daycare--it's a lot of fun and has educational benefits. Zingo! Sight Words is very simple and easy to use, making it a great game for children to play together {adult supervision and participation is encouraged}. I love to participate in Noah's games, because we get to spend time together and I can be sure that he's getting a quality learning experience, as well.

The Zingo! Sight Words game is readily available at many retailers and also on Amazon. ThinkFun makes MANY, many other equally-impressive games! I feel so blessed to have found this company.

This is a game that Noah *wants* to play.
We definitely will add to our game collection with additional items from ThinkFun.
