While grocery shopping, I discovered that Kraft has created a new product called Veggie Pasta. This excited me a little, because here's an item that everyone loves, but with the added benefit of "sneaky vegetables." Oooh, this is a must-try. The other good news--it's affordable! Yes, they left the price comparable to other Kraft macaroni & cheese products.
Ok, on to the review :)
There is 1/2 serving of vegetables in each serving; there are two servings in the box. This is an
adult-size (1/2) serving of vegetables, so
for small children, this is one full serving of vegetables. I'm very happy that they incorporated cauliflower pasta in to this product, because you absolutely
will not notice that it's different from traditional elbow macaroni. The cheese sauce is the
original flavor and everything about this looks "normal." My baby boy happily ate his Veggie Pasta and went about his day--didn't suspect a thing. What you must know--he always notices when something has been altered... but, he didn't notice any difference in this :) I also ate part of it, and it's everything that you'd expect from this childhood favorite. My only complaint is that it's a little too salty for my taste, but it always has been.
I'll definitely purchase this again, because:
- it's quick & affordable
- it has a child's serving of vegetables
- you get 3 grams of fiber per serving.
It will work
great with picky eaters, as well. Another good note:
it's low in fat & cholesterol (as packaged). I prepare it with
skim milk, because we use skim milk for everything :) If you prepare this with skim milk, it will have around 300 calories per serving, which is less than a kids' meal/most french fries. Add a lean protein on the side, a serving of fruit, and it's a quick lunch for a child :)
I will make fruit smoothies for snacks OR freeze pureed fruit (smoothies) and let him enjoy them as popsicles.
I like that a respectable brand like Kraft is incorporating veggies into everyday items, like this Veggie Pasta :) I'd love to toss in some diced veggies or make this into a cool Mexican pasta dish--lots of possibilities with this box of pasta.
Macaroni & Cheese! (with veggie pasta)
I highly recommend this item :) It's creamy, yummy and healthier than ever before*.
*This is not a sponsored post. I bought this and wanted to share the good news about it. It's healthier than the original version of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. My opinions are my own.
