Burpee Greenhouse Kit: Kids love to help :)

I love to plant seeds and watch them grow--always have, always will. Every year I buy a variety of seeds, soil cubes, and other gardening supplies to grow my own plants. If you've never grown your own plants before, you should seriously consider it, because it's very easy and rewarding--not to mention, you will save money by doing this.

I purchased the small Burpee Greenhouse kit, along with a packet of bell pepper seeds. Bell peppers are fun to grow, because they are easy to care for and they grow pretty quickly. You can purchase the Greenhouse kits in many different sizes, which is convenient for separating different plants. I always have several of these around my house in the Spring and I move the little plants outside when the danger of frost has passed.

What's great about the Burpee Greenhouse kit is:

  • No messy/heavy bag of soil to carry around
  • No need for plant pots for each seedling
  • It's a fun activity for your children/company/friends to participate in
  • The little greenhouse is attractive and functional
  • Growing individual plants make transplanting easy-breezy!

My niece is spending the week with us and I like to include her and my 4-year-old son in fun activities. Children love to help do "grown-up" things and they also love crafts--planting seeds it the perfect combination of these two activities! Everyone will have fun planting the seeds, without realizing all of the benefits from this fun activity :)

Why you should let your children/young relatives help you plant seeds:

  • Planting seeds will allow children to watch seedlings magically appear! This exciting natural wonder will teach valuable lesson in science education.
  • Watching plants grow will give children a sense of pride and success
  • The meticulous activity is good for hand-eye coordination and developing/strengthening fine motor skills.
  • Growing plants may encourage better eating habits for family members
  • Engaging activities encourage language development in young children (typical & atypical)
  • Other important skills: Reading instructions, following instructions and sharing

One of my favorite reasons to plant seeds with family/friends: Seeing the plants will remind everyone of the fun they had together when they planted the seeds :)

My grandma has Buttercups in her yard that my brother planted with her when he was just a toddler. These flowers come up early every Spring and it really brings a smile to my grandma's face & heart :) She shares the flowers with my mama; it's a special moment between them that is truly heart-warming :)
